A message from NYHA - 4/14/20

NYHA Families -

The current reality is entirely new to us.  Since mid March, we have all been subject to "Stay Home, Stay Safe" orders, self-quarantine and social distancing directives, and mandated homeschooling.

Everyone is limiting in-person interaction with other people, and many are glued to computers, phones, and TV screens.  We are in unprecedented times, and it is not an easy scenario for any of us.

During this pandemic, therefore, it is more important than ever for us to acknowledge each other, support each other and appreciate each other.  With that in mind, the NYHA wishes all of you and your families are doing well and staying safe and healthy during this challenging time.

That being said, the NYHA is fully committed to returning to hockey as soon as practical, once the applicable federal and state directives and orders have been relaxed and/or lifted.  In that regard, with respect to spring hockey, the NYHA will provide an update once the position of USA Hockey and MAHA is communicated.  We have also been in regular contact with the administrative team at the Novi Ice Arena, and we are fully prepared to resume hockey the moment that we are able to do so.

Also, with respect to the fall 2020-21 season, registration is currently open.  In order to register, click below:

Again, we wish all of you and your families good health and well being, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the rink!

Clips For Corona Heroes

So proud to support NYHA's own Matthew Tuer and his Clips for Corona Heroes Campaign. Everyday first responders and medical personnel are risking their lives to help those who have contracted COVID-19. I’ve been thinking of a way to show my appreciation for their selflessness. Since barber shops are closed, and my dad and I needed haircuts, we decided to shave each other’s heads. With the money we save, we will purchase food/gift cards from local businesses and deliver to hospitals and police stations. Please join us in the #ClipsForCoronaHeroes haircut challenge. Donate the money YOU save by cutting your own hair. Post a video or picture of your new ‘do. Use the hashtag #ClipsForCoronaHeroes and share the challenge with friends and family. Let’s support our local businesses while showing our heroes how much we appreciate them and the sacrifices they make for us everyday.

MAHA Update - March 27th

March 27, 2020

On Monday March 23, 2020, the Governor of Michigan issued an Executive Order in Response to COVID-19 to “Stay Home, Stay Safe” until April 13, 2020. This has caused all the rinks in Michigan to temporarily close and suspend all activities. Many rinks in Michigan have temporarily taken their ice out to reduce expenses during this time. They will need time to restore their facilities once the Executive Order is lifted to be able to resume normal operations. Some rinks have stated they may not be putting ice back in until the fall season which means associations and teams looking for spring / summer ice may need to find other nearby facilities to use.

The MAHA Executive Board met on Tuesday March 24, to discuss tryouts for spring and fall teams that had been previously scheduled or postponed until April 7, 2020. USA Hockey has given the Affiliates authority to make decisions, based on current events and local circumstances, during the pandemic.

Therefore, Effective Immediately the MAHA Executive Committee is prohibiting any tryouts, formation of teams, offering of contracts, recruiting etc. for ALL USA Hockey Member programs in the Michigan Affiliate (aka: Everyone) until further notice. This includes all levels of Youth and Girls hockey, for which tryouts were originally to take place in either March or April.

MAHA will monitor issues related to the COVID-19 Pandemic and will provide direction on when tryouts and related activities will be able to begin. Once it is clear when these restrictions will be lifted, and when rinks will be able to resume operations, a new date will be set.

I am sure having to pause these activities is difficult for everyone. But, we urge you to continue to follow the advice of our healthcare professionals and stay healthy. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to hockey just as soon as we are able to. We will do our best to stay on top of this ever-changing situation and continue to adjust to meet the healthcare guidelines, and to provide a safe environment for our participants.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in the matter.

Novi Ice Arena - Skating Treadmill

The Novi Skating Treadmill is OPEN!!!!

"Hello and welcome to the new All-N-Stride skating Treadmill Training Program located inside the Novi Ice Arena!  We are a group of professional power skating coaches who use the skating treadmill for form and technique analysis, power and speed development, and overall skating efficiency improvement.  We use a progressive curriculum to help players understand the biomechanics of skating.  Every player will have their own individualized workout program!  With the help of the full length mirror in front of the treadmill, the players will receive REAL-TIME VISUAL FEEDBACK which accelerates the rate of learning and the retention of what has been taught.

We are excited to get started training the Novi area players and we look forward to meeting you soon!"

Carrie Keil | Hockey University

All N Stride has trained some of the best skaters in the world and we look forward to having them work with our aspiring athletes.
